A study was conducted on differentiation of infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) disease field isolates and vaccinal strain to differentiate between the disease and post vaccinal reaction. Restriction endonuclease (RE) digestion patterns of field isolates of ILT virus were compared with two vaccinal strains. The field isolates generated RE digestion pattern not identical to a vaccial strain by using EcoRI and BamHI enzymes, which indicates that the field infection was due to field viruses not post vaccinal reaction. RE provides additional tools for discrimination between ILT strains.
